Day of Innovation

Students working in Innovation Labs

On Friday, March 23rd, Capistrano Unified School District’s Board Room will be transformed into an Innovation Lab when student and teacher ambassadors across eight elementary schools are trained in the use of builder tools, green screen videography, and Sphero Edu. Designed to equip schools with a place where students can gather to create, invent, and learn, EdTech Director, Dr. John Morgan states that the Innovation Labs “support student collaboration, communication, and critical thinking through the iterative process of engineering and design.”

Capistrano Unified’s EdTech team is training students and teachers with tools for coding, technology, robotics, and engineering, and these representatives will become site ambassadors for  their school sites. Susan Holliday, Associate Superintendent, notes that educational technology is crucial in preparing our students to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world.” Capistrano Unified places a high priority on ensuring that students are future ready, and providing STEM opportunities at an early age is a districtwide initiative. The Innovation Labs are in addition to the approximately 35,000 chromebooks in use across grades three through twelve.
