Frequently Asked Questions

How will devices be updated?

  • We recommend that teachers reinforce with students the need to restart the devices weekly to ensure they receive all updates.

What happens when a Chromebook is broken by a student?

  • When a Chromebook is broken, students with insurance should file a claim and return to the school site for a loaner Chromebook.  Loaners will be older models for students to be able to use while their device is being repaired.  Students without insurance will return the device to the school and pick up a loaner Chromebook.

What if a student forgets a Chromebook?

  • Students should be able to use an on-site loaner device for the day.  Ideally, this need will decrease over time.  We recommend sites and teachers create a ‘bring your device daily’ rule, treating the Chromebook in much the same way as a textbook.

Can students put stickers on or customize Chromebooks?

  • Students are allowed to customize the Chromebook; however, all customization should be removed before the device is turned back into the District for any reason.

How does the District protect these devices?

  • The District uses a cloud based filter to filter internet content for students.  Please remember that no filter is perfect and students should be monitored while on the Chromebook.  Students should also follow the agreed upon acceptable use policy and digital citizenship best practices.
  • Because the devices are properly checked out they can be disabled if reported stolen, rendering the device useless.
